Drawings & Specifications

Sample “Standard” Details (examples shown below) provided by Flexene Systems Pty Ltd are to be used as a guide for project specifc detailing.

This guide specification has been prepared by Flexene Systems Pty Ltd to assist the design professionals in the preparation of the specification section regarding flexible substrates to form curved surfaces.

It is highly recommended that an authorised Flexene Consultant be contacted to assist with the selection and detailing of the proposed support frame and specification options, during the design and documentation phase prior to installation.

1.0 GENERALLY:
Form curved surfaces to the shape, size, contour and finish as indicated on the drawings. Accurately setout and construct the support frame as detailed. Allow for the installation of concealed services where required. Securely fix the flexene to the support frame allowing to cut, trim and join the sheets as required to form the required contoured surface. Install all trims, joiners and accessories where required. Apply the reinforced surface coats to achieve the required strength and surface shape. Apply the final protective and decorative coating to achieve the required surface finish.

2.0 MATERIALS:
2.1 The flexible substrate to form the curved or contoured surfaces shall be 25mm thick Flexene. The flexene sheet is to be of composite construction, minimum density of …………….gsm. The flexene sheets to be manufactured from fire retarded EPS and reinforced with an integral alkali resistant fiberglass mesh.
2.2 All FLEXENE sheets to be manufactured by Flexene Systems Pty Ltd and installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s written instructions.
2.3 Components used in the assembly manufactured by others are to comply with their relevant standards and are to be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s written instructions.
2.4 STRUCTURAL SUPPORT (supplied by others)
Structural support and subframe to be engineered to support subsequent FLEXENE sheeting, finishes and fixtures. Structural support to be designed and certified by a qualified practicing Structural Engineer.
2.5 CONCEALED SERVICES (supplied by others)
All concealed services shall be completed and positions marked prior to installing FLEXENE.
2.6 FINISHES (supplied by others)
Approved Polymer Render, Stucco or plaster mixture, thickness and reinforcements to be in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and applied in the same manner as when applied to flat surfaces. Use extra care to achieve the desired finish shape and contour indicated in the documents.

3.0 INSTALLATION
3.1 Install flexene sheets, fixings and accessories in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and in compliance with all relevant Standards and Codes.
3.2 Screw fasteners and washers to battens, profile supports, clips or sheeting to be equal to zinc plated 8g 40mm bugle head dry wall screws @450cc (max) with washers to be 40 mm dia approved polypropylene washers. Staple fixing to timber where required to be (min) 25 x 12 mm wide construction staples
@ 450cc (max). Staples to be applied at an angle to the finished surface to assist adhesion.
3.3 Flexene sheets to be butt joined using heavy duty crimping staples equal to Stanley Bostitch SW7437 @ 60 mm cc max or Screw Fixed using 90 x 30 x 1 mm perforated zinc plate strapping with screws and washers specified above.
3.4 EXPANSION JOINTS – Provide expansion joints where shown on the drawings or locate expansion joints generally at max 4.0m cc externally and 6.0m cc internally. Isolate applied finishes from other structural components or non-structural finishes using expansion joints, edge trims or de-bonding tape to reduce the occurrence of hair line cracking. Joints may be filled with flexible filler and are not required to be straight.
3.5 CONTROL JOINTS – Provide control joints where shown on the drawings. Do not bridge construction joints in the structure and finish. Coordinate joint locations with other trades.
3.6 FLASHINGS & SEALANTS (by others) – Provide flashings, backing rods & sealants to all external openings, penetrations and junctions to provide a watertight and weather resistant enclosure where required.

4.0 APPLIED FINISHES (by others)
Approved Polymer Render, plaster or stucco mixture and thickness to be applied in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
4.1 Light Duty:
Finishes to Internal surfaces in locations “out of normal reach” such as ceilings, to be installed using cut strand fibre reinforcement integral to the mix. (min 2 coats).
4.2 Medium Duty:
Finishes to Internal surfaces such as walls subject to light impact forces to be installed using one layer of fibre reinforced scrim fabric progressively installed to the wet-mix. (min 2 coats).
4.3 Heavy Duty:
Finishes to Internal and External surfaces such as walls and fascias subject to mild impact forces to be installed using two layers of fibre reinforced scrim fabric progressively installed to the wet-mix. (min 3 coats).
